Assessing the Severity of Allergies

When Is It Urgent? Assessing the Seriousness of Allergies

A lot of individuals often take allergies for granted, thinking that it can only cause discomfort and nothing more. Although for some, allergies may not have any serious effects, this does not mean that there is no such thing as a life-threatening allergic reaction. In fact, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, allergies can trigger a life-threatening reaction commonly known as an anaphylactic shock. When an individual goes through this serious allergic reaction, they will require urgent care services.

As an urgent care center in Castro Valley, California, we want to help our clients become more well-informed about the risks of allergies. As such, here are some symptoms to look out for:

  • Hives and itching of eyes or face
  • Difficulty breathing due to the swelling of the patient’s mouth, throat, and tongue.
  • Abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Cramps
  • Mental confusion or dizziness

If you begin to experience the following symptoms, this means that you are going through a severe allergic reaction that is affecting your entire body. As symptoms are known to progress within a couple of minutes, you must act immediately and get the assistance you need by heading to the nearest health care clinic.

While waiting for help to arrive, make sure you wear loose clothing. It would also help to lie on your back and stay as calm as possible. By keeping your cool, you will be better suited to think of the next steps to take.
